8. 36,000 Year Old Meat Freezer
Scientist in Siberia found bodies of Woolly Mammoths carcasses fully preserved from the extreme cold and snow. They were completely frozen solid for thousands of years under permafrost which preserved their body from prehistoric times. This keeps them in almost perfect condition; as if they were hunted just yesterday. Since mammoths are extinct, this makes it an incredible find and their remains will be an artifact from the past that will be intensively researched.
7. Roman Dodecahedron
This is a small metal object that dates back to the 2nd or 3rd century AD and many of these strange things have been found in the former territories of the Roman Empire. Each one is different but has the same overall shape but it looks like an underwater mine to me. Each hole in this object is a different size and no one can figure out exactly it’s for. Tests have been done and some claim they’re used for making gloves. This theory would make sense but they are strange object from the past with much debate.
6. Prehistoric Hammer Head?
This hammer head was found in London, Texas in 1936 while hiking and it seemed like this object didn’t belong covered in granite. How could this be possible? The hammer is 6 inches long with a one inch diameter and is made up of primarily iron. There have been no conflicting reports and can be seen in a museum, but how? So what came first, the rock or the hammer? Skeptics argue that rocks could have stuck to the hammer around the Cretaceous Period. But the hammer seems to have the design from about 200 years ago. Certainly something that puzzles geologists.
5. The Horned Helmet of Henry VIII
This strange design is technically called an “armet” which means horned helmet. This was a gift presented by the Holy Roman emperor in 1514. The craftsmanship of this helmet made King Henry want something a little bit better each time and his standards increasingly got more specific even though this was one of his favorite pieces. What makes this design unique is how it covers the entire face for protection and the armets aren’t typically an English design.
4. The Malgana Treasure
After most of the gold was plundered by the Spanish Conquistadors very few original artifacts remain in this region of Columbia. A lot of pieces that were found by farmers were unfortunately melted down and made into bullion. This ceremonial mask is worth over $300,000 USD in gold alone. This lucky farmer who found the mask, sold it to be preserved in a museum in Bogota, Columbia.
3. The Voynich Manuscript
Carbon-dated from the 15th century, this mind boggling text was found in Northern Italy and is written in an unknown language or code. Much of the origins of the book are unknown. A lot of pages were mysteriously ripped out, but the ones still there have some type of illustration of plants and astronomical figures. The texts have been attempted to be deciphered but with no success. What was this secret code used for and was it hiding something we don’t know? Many have guessed, but even with our modern technology, we still have no idea exactly what it’s about.
2. The Bosnian Forest Sphere
The discovery of this sphere in the Bosnian woods, has created a debate on whether an ancient civilization once lived here. This sphere appears to be made of iron and could weigh over 30 tons! The diameter is believed to be any where from 7-10 feet wide. This artifact could change the history of Europe as we know it. Other villages in the area claimed discoveries of their own sphere and there could be as many as 80 total! As soon as we think we have a good understanding of history, something new comes along to rewrite the books.
The Gold Encrusted Dagger of Stonehenge
Just half a mile from stonehenge, what was believed to be the original “jewels of the King of Stonehenge” were found. This priceless relic from the past is extremely well detailed and the studs were thinner than a hole in a threading needle. The overlapping fishscale design took an incredible amount of time to create, with over 140,000 tiny gold studs, and would have been fit for only a king to enjoy. What’s even more astonishing is the period in which it was created. With this being made 4,000 years ago and using microscopic particles of gold; it’s quite impressive.
